Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the “75 years of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” commemorative medals for the first time, the Kremlin press service reported.

This happened during a visit to the State Memorial Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad. There Putin met with veterans and representatives of public patriotic associations.

On Saturday, January 18, the Russian leader took part in commemorative events in the city on the Neva dedicated to the 77th anniversary of breaking the Leningrad blockade.

“The beginning of the conversation was preceded by the ceremony to award the “75 years of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” commemorative medals to the invited veterans,” the press service reported.

The President presented awards to Valentina Andronova, Anatoly Klimov, Ekaterina Tuturova and Boris Feofanov.

“Today I want to present veterans with the medal '75 years of victory in the Great Patriotic War.' This medal will be awarded to all participants and veterans of the Great Patriotic War,” RIA Novosti quoted Putin.

The anniversary medal was established by presidential decree on June 13, 2019.

Radio Sputnik earlier reported that Putin had specified an amount of lump-sum payments for the 75th Victory anniversary.
